Trackbacks

Trackbacks for comments seem to be up and working now after some trouble I had earlier.  The trackback system sends a trackback for comments once a day.  The first trackbacked paper is arXiv:0802.3351.

Cool – interlinking is very nice. Thanks for getting this done!

… but not every comment seems to generate a trackback. Is it just a bit erratic, or is there some criteria a comment needs to satisfy to get trackbacked?

I think the trackbacks are a good idea; a nice way of perhaps pulling more people towards scirate, and maybe starting to use it.

Kudos for the trackbacks. I think it is a great feature for a site like this.

However, I have to admit that the quality of a lot of the comments is quite low. As would be expected due to internet anonymity and, well, lack of maturity and accountability from a lot of people. I think a good way to counter act that would be to have a rating/moderation system, not unlike Slashdot comments. That way readers can filter out the snark, and hopefully focus on the more useful comments.

    Hi Dave,
    This is a bug-report :)
There is an error showing accents in last name (like in mine). In that case, instead of “Alejandro Díaz-Caro” it shows “Alejandro D” (you can see this example here http://scirate.com/who.php?id=0806.2447)
    Cheers,
    Alejandro

    Hello Alejandro,

Thanks for the bug note. I believe I’ve fixed it for future updates…now I have to figure a way to fix the database (doh.)

  6. Dave Bacon Says:

Okay I’m updating the database now…so hopefully your name should be fixed soon.

  7. Alejandro Díaz-Caro Says:

    Great Job! Thanks!

The mentioned site really needs to have a contact form or something,.. If someone is having issues with the site, like logging in or worse- they have no way of contacting site owners. They have to either register, or find your blog and leave comments.

Anyways- could someone from staff email me about other matters. I’m not having problems with logging in or anything- it’s more about your security,.. I mean your lack of security. :P
